This chant from Happy Valley Student Book 3, Unit 3, introduces the dishes and utensils we often use in our daily lives. Do the chant and then do again with gestures. The target language for this unit and the Storytime scenario make this perfect for a role play. Using realia, either from your kitchen or a children’s kitchen play set, have children pretend that they are on a picnic and they forgot something. Their friends can help them by offering to share. Make sure everyone has two of some object and when a student says I forgot my spoon their friend with 2 spoons can say Let’s share. Here you are. This unit also recycles language from Happy Valley 1: Here you are. Thank you. You’re welcome. Review that song, passing along an object in a circle.

Here you are.」と言います。ハッピーバレー1で学んだ「Here you are. Thank you. You’re welcome」も一緒に練習できます。円になって座り、何かを隣の人に渡しながら、歌をうたって復習しましょう。

As you learn this language, help your child remember it by asking them to help you set the table at home. Children love to help and are certainly capable at this age of helping. Now, instead of asking in Japanese, use the English. Start with simple language like Cups, please. Then, you can make the language a bit more difficult by saying, Please bring the cups. Or, let your child ask you. Remember to use Here you are. Thank you. and You’re welcome. Also, with the warm weather approaching, you can certainly use this language as you picnic outside! May I have a cup, please?
